Small business websites: for tutors

Websites for tutors.

A one-page site for a tutor, where the person matters as much as the subject, showing who you are, who you help and what you charge, and how to book a first lesson.

What tutors need from a website

Many parents choose a tutor on trust. They often want to know who you are, whether you have taught their child's year before, whether you are registered and vetted, and what an hour costs. A tutor's page is mostly about you, so the tutor starting point is written in the first person: "Email me", "Where I teach".

It lists your subjects with hourly rates, the suburbs you travel to and that you teach online as well, your Teaching Council registration, and that you are police vetted. Book a trial lesson starts an email to you.

Already written for tutors

The page starts with these, under the heading "Services". You can rename them, rewrite them or add your own, up to twelve in all.

Built for how tutors work

  • You first

A tutor starts on Portrait: your photo large beside your name and the line about who you help, then what a parent said. It is the template our tutor demo uses.

  • In person and online

Tick that you teach online and the places read "Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and online". Teach only online and the site says so instead of listing suburbs.

  • Rates the way you charge them

Each subject shows a rate with a note, "from $70 per hour", a block such as "from $280 for four sessions" for exam preparation, or an exact price.

  • Book a trial lesson

The button starts an email asking for a trial lesson, so a parent can ask for a first session in one tap, and you reply in your own time.

Licences and registrations

Add your Teaching Council registration number and the site shows it with a link to the Council's register, where a parent can search for you. Police vetting and a first aid certificate are listed to start with; keep the ones you hold.

What it costs

It costs nothing to build, or to take as a folder. It is $300 to put it live with a domain in your name, hosting and the first year looked after, then $99 a year, with no monthly platform fee and no software to keep updated. Changes are yours to make, at no cost: your link opens the site in the builder, and you put it live when you are ready. Nothing is taken until the site is in front of you and we are ready to go.

Have a logo and colours already? Use them in the builder. For your own fonts, a layout made around your brand, or more than one page, talk to us about a site built on your branding.

Prices and terms in full, and all the templates.

Where a tutor starts

It starts on Portrait. Calling Card and Status suit tutors too, and every template is one tap away while you build.

Questions from tutors

I am not a registered teacher. Can I still use it?
Yes. Leave the Teaching Council out and list what you do have: a degree in the subject, years of tutoring, police vetting. Everything in the list is yours to change.
Should my photo be on it?
For a tutor it often helps: many parents like to see who is coming to their kitchen table. Portrait is built around it. It is optional on every template.
I only teach online.
Tick online and leave the places empty, and the site says you teach online rather than listing suburbs.
Can a parent check my registration?
The link opens the Teaching Council's register, which a parent searches by your name or registration number. There is no link straight to one teacher's entry, so the site links to the search.
