What we have made, for other people and for ourselves

These are the sites, applications, tools and photographs Train Effect has made, sorted by the kind of work, each with a short account and a link to the thing itself. Some were made for clients and clubs, some are our own, and some were built together with other studios, which close the page.

Websites and online shops

Sites designed and built here, for a shop, a product, a club and a competition.

A jeweller's shop
An online shop for a Wellington jeweller, with its own checkout, stock and orders. It opens once its content is in, and until then the address shows a holding page. Client work · Design and build jacquib.nz
The jeweller's site on a desktop and a phone: a line drawing of an octopus over the name, and links to see the work or commission a piece.
Epigraph website
The public website for Epigraph, a product for running a security programme from live evidence. With a partner studio · Design and build epigraph-security.com
Epigraph's website on a desktop and a phone: the headline, Run your security programme from live evidence, not questionnaires, over the six steps from Collect to Report.
Valley Brewer
The Lower Hutt homebrew club's site, with member accounts, the members' brews, a recipe library and a hop blender. Community, volunteer · Design and build valleybrewer.nz
The Valley Brewer club site on a desktop and a phone.
Euroclash
The site of Wellington's annual competition for European beer styles, keeping each year's results, judges and sponsors. Community, volunteer · Design and build euroclash.nz
The Euroclash competition site on a desktop and a phone.

Software and apps

Applications that run in the browser or on a phone, from the interface design to the whole build.

Epigraph
Epigraph reads how an organisation's Microsoft Entra tenant is configured and turns it into the findings, risks, policies and evidence that a security programme and its auditors work from. It is built together with Pixel Labs. With a partner studio · UI and UX design Security governance software
Epigraph's security dashboard on demo data, on a desktop and a phone: counts of critical and high findings, expired credentials and apps without owners, with the failing checks and the riskiest applications below.
OpenBrew
Software for running a homebrew competition judged to the BJCP guidelines, from entries through judging to the published results. Our own · For competition organisers openbrew.nz
OpenBrew on a desktop and a phone: the competition software's front page.
Learn Valley Brewer
The club's judge training, a course through the BJCP style families with sessions run together as a group. It is built together with Pixel Labs. Community, volunteer · Design and development learn.valleybrewer.nz
Learn Valley Brewer on a desktop and a phone: the judge training course's front page.
The Valley Brewer app
The club's brewing app, with the recipe builder, brew day timers and a fermentation log on the phone, all of it working without a signal. It is built together with Pixel Labs. Community, volunteer · App development Android · beta, for members
The Valley Brewer app on three phones: a recipe card measured against its style, the recipe editor's mash steps in the dark theme, and Brew Day's fermentation schedule with its dry hops.
Curious Kea
Short rounds for children from about seven on how we know things, set in a few places around a camp. It plays in the browser, with no ads and nothing collected. Our own · Free, with no accounts curiouskea.nz
Curious Kea on a desktop and a phone: a drawn kea on a rock above the title, learning how we know things, a play now button and the places at camp.

Tools you can use

Tools Train Effect makes and runs for anyone to use, and most of them cost nothing.

Small business websites
A web tool that lets a sole trader or a small business build its own one-page website in the browser, with no technical knowledge. The finished site can be taken away to put online, or put live by us on its own domain. Our own · Free to build and download, or put live by us builder.traineffect.co.nz
A plumber's one-page site from the builder on a desktop and a phone.
The brewing notebook
A coil-bound A4 notebook for brew days with your name and logo on the cover, set up in a builder that shows the finished book page by page. Our own · Printed and posted, or a PDF at no cost notebook.traineffect.co.nz
The notebook builder on a desktop and a phone: the steps, the form and the book set live beside it.
360 viewer
A viewer for 360 panoramas that runs in the browser and never uploads the image. Our own · Free, and nothing is uploaded 360viewer.traineffect.co.nz
The 360 viewer on a desktop and a phone.

Photography

Photographic work with a page of its own. Client photography stays unnamed, and its range is on the photography page.

Lighting the Trails
Wellington's mountain bike trails at night, each one drawn through the dark by a rider's light over a long exposure. It is made together with Edge of the Grid. With a partner studio · Photography, and its page matthewpaterson.co.nz
The Lighting the Trails page on a desktop and a phone: white and amber lines of light weaving through tree ferns over a boardwalk, beside the line of the ride.

Built together

Train Effect is the studio of Matt Paterson, whose personal site is matthewpaterson.co.nz. It works alongside other studios, and these are the ones it shares projects with now.

Development partner

Pixel Labs

Marcus Bokk

Pixel Labs is Marcus Bokk's studio for web, brand and product, and together we build Epigraph and web applications for the homebrew club. Marcus founded the Valley Brewer club and the Euroclash competition, and the two studios are working on the club's brewing app and Learn Valley Brewer, where the club trains its beer judges.

Edge of the Grid
