Design

Design for screens and print

Interface, layout and visual language for websites, applications and print, shaped by how audiences read images. From Wellington, for businesses anywhere.

A tall stack of paper and card seen on its cut edge: fine horizontal strata in off-white, grey, near-black and deep blue, offset in stepped blocks.

What is delivered

Interface design
Screens, flows and components for websites and applications, designed to be built.
Layout
Pages, documents and campaigns laid out for reading: hierarchy, type, space, image.
Visual language
A palette, a type system and an image style that hold together across a site, a document and a campaign.
Image direction
Which pictures, how they are cropped, where they sit and what they say, decided with the layout rather than after it.
Print
Brochures, reports, signage and exhibition material, prepared for the printer.

How a booking runs

  1. Email with what needs designing, what it is for and roughly when.
  2. Expect questions: who reads it, where it appears, what exists already.
  3. A written scope and a fixed price.
  4. Drafts to read and respond to, then the finished files.
  5. Hand-over: the files, the fonts and the specifications, ready to build or print.

How it is priced

A fixed price against a written scope: so many screens, pages or items, with a round of changes included. Design for a site built hereis priced with the site. Changes beyond the scope are quoted before they are made.

The work

Interface and layout for openbrew.nz, brewing competition software used by organisers, entrants and judges. Sites for a homebrew club and an annual homebrewing competition, designed and built together: valleybrewer.nz and euroclash.nz. Exhibition and book layouts from a documentary practice.
